Boot and install Windows 10 from USB stick

Your USB stick to install Windows 10 is ready:

  1. Plug the USB flash drive to your computer where you want to install Windows 10.
  2. Changes the boot order in the BIOS so that the USB stick is booted in front of operating systems and hard disks.
  3. Restarts the PC, the installation routine of Windows 10 starts.

The copying process can take several minutes. If possible, connect the USB stick to USB 3.0 to make it faster.

Alternatively, you use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to create a USB stick. But the required data have to be down loaded first, which can take a while:

For Windows 7 , the procedure looks similar: Install Windows 7 from the USB stick . The top tool for Windows 10 also works for Windows 7 and 8. For these versions of Windows, simply use the appropriate Windows 7 or Windows 8 ISO file. Here you can download it:

  1. Download the Windows 10 ISO file if you have not already done so. The download is about 3.5 GB in size and may take a while.
  2. Program get Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool downloads and installs it.
  3. The tool creates bootable USB flash drives from ISO files of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, even though it has "Windows 7" in its name.
  4. Start the tool and select the ISO file of Windows 10 at "Step 1 of 4" with Browse , click on Next .
  5. Click on USB device .
  6. Select the drive of your connected USB stick from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click on Begin copying .
  8. Confirms the erase operations of the USB flash drive with Erase USB Device and Yes .
